Dundee Choral Union returns for its Spring Concert with a major work of choral classic, Johannes Brahms’ Requiem.
In what was widely believed to be a personal response to the death of his mother, Brahms did not set the traditional Latin Requiem Mass, but instead chose his texts from the Bible and the Apocrypha, setting them in his own language. Accordingly we will perform the work in an English translation by Michael Pilkington, with soloists Sarah Power (soprano) and Phil Gault (baritone). Brahms made his own version of the orchestral accompaniment for piano duet. It is this version, in an expanded arrangement for two pianos played by Valerie Maynes and Morley Whitehead, which we will perform.
Dundee Choral Union was founded in 1858 to contribute to the cultural life of Dundee through music. Come join us for a night of music making, of classical intimacy and grandeur.
